6. Current Research about the Disorder:
On March 8, the Angelman Syndrome Foundation discovered more information on how Angelman Syndrome can affect specific neurological processes, needed for memory and learning. Researchers discovered that a biochemical pathway(important to growth and learning processes) which are usually revived in a developing brain , are not fully activated in those with Angelman Syndrome. This leads them to believe that this is a possible cause of defects in the brain that affect communication. Researchers also discovered that compound CN209Y, a drug believed to protect neurons against strokes and disease states, can help with fixing the defects. However it is least likely to be used because it is not long lasting.
